On 18th March Dukeries u3a held a very successful Open Day at Jubilee Hall, Ollerton for the renewal of existing memberships and for potential members to find out about the group’s plans for the year.

The Creative Writing Group celebrated their work at the event by launching their professionally produced book entitled Inspirations. Selling at just £3.00 per book, profits will be donated to the Dukeries u3a members’ nominated charity – the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance. This will be added to the over £5,000 already raised for such a worthy cause.

Group of the Month: All Sorts

The All Sorts Group have been busy with their creative talents, having an art group with Sue, making bird boxes with Wendy and Garden Mobiles with Linda. As the title implies, they have a go at anything. If you have an idea about something different you can share with them, why not go along? The group meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month at Ambleside, Yew Tree Road, New Ollerton, 10.00am to 12.00pm. It’s just £1.00 to cover coffee and biscuits.

Two of the newer groups, Soft Tennis and Cheeky Blinders banjolele players, also enjoyed good months. The Ukulele Group were invited to play at Clipstone Nursing Home where they entertained the residents and staff. A fun time was had by all.

Three contrasting trips were enjoyed in March. Firstly, members saw how recycling worked at the invitation of Veolia in Mansfield. It gave food for thought, as in a different way did the next outing which was a merry murder mystery weekend at The Old Barn Hotel, Marston, Lincs.

Lastly, car enthusiasts travelled back in time as they viewed 130 classic cars at the Great British Car Journey in Ambergate. April’s trip will be a fascinating visit to Bletchley Park, the principal centre of Allied code breaking during the Second World War.

For lovers of the Hollywood Musicals, the April guest speaker is Roger Browne. Roger will bring his musical presentation on the Life and Times of George and Ira Gershwin.

Roger is an actor, singer, speaker, musician, director, composer and writer. As a jazz pianist he has accompanied many top international and UK-based jazz artists and has played in countries all over the world.

Perhaps you would like to make new friends and socialise or learn something new. There are a lot of good things happening at Dukeries u3a, which is open to all adults irrespective of employment status.

Annual membership costs £20.00 up to 31 March 2025 and includes access to all activities and interest groups. To find out more go along to their meetings, on the third Monday of each month, 12.30pm to 3.00pm, for £1.00 to cover refreshments.
