Dukeries u3a welcomed more members in February to bring the number of members to 164. There are now 19 different activity and interest groups with ideas in the pipeline for new subjects.
The Ramblers continued their programme with a circular walk around Vicar Water and into Sherwood Pines, where they looked at the recreated war trenches. They followed this with a walk along the Teversal Trail.

Dukeries u3a member Tony Brewer gave a very interesting talk to the History group on the artist Norman Rockwell, famous for his cover illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post, while The Allsorts and Gardening group were given a demonstration of Tunisian crochet by Dukeries u3a member Christine Yates. They also enjoyed a visit to Felley Priory where they admired the snowdrops and gardens.
The sewing group welcomed new members to share and learn more about the craft.

2nd February was National Ukulele Day and the ukulele group celebrated with lunch at Bella Vita after their usual music session. The Tuesday lunch club had a lovely lunch at Rose Cottage in Rufford, and the photography group shared their photos celebrating winter.

March’s monthly members’ meeting was a showcase for the activity and interest groups and for members to renew their annual subscriptions. Members also enjoyed a fun evening in March at their Beetle Drive and Supper.

April’s speaker will be Chris Casswell, an experienced archaeologist for more than 15 years across a variety of research, commercial and community projects. He has undertaken fieldwork at nationally and internationally significant sites, including Stonehenge and the Alhambra, Spain. Chris will reveal ‘What Lies Beneath Sherwood Pines’, and also tell members about the WWI Camp at Clipstone.

Dukeries u3a has members drawn from Ollerton, Edwinstowe and the surrounding villages. It is run by the members and follows the u3a motto ‘Learn, Laugh, Live’.
