Dukeries u3a continues to grow its membership with new activity groups starting and the number of members increasing to160. There are now 19 different activity / interest groups with ideas in the pipeline for new subjects in 2023.
They are pleased to be joining with other local u3a groups to provide more opportunities for their members and plans are being made for future collaborations for trips and holidays.
Dukeries u3a are happy to liaise with local organisations and were very pleased to take part again this year in the RSPB’s Edwinstowe and Sherwood Heart Trail when hearts made by local people and groups were displayed throughout the village and the forest during February.
Also in February, the Ramblers went on a seven mile walk along the Robin Hood Way into Clumber Park and the History group learned more about the Progressive Middle Ages and the Printing Revolution. The Allsorts and Gardening group had a different kind of meeting when they indulged in a pampering session led by Jane Young. The Knit’n’Natter group knitted children’s garments which were forwarded to the Ukraine Relief Fund as well as novelty items which were sold in support of Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance, raising £103. The Sunday lunch club enjoyed a visit to Larch Farm at Ravenshead.
Speakers for the members’ meetings in 2023 are booked with varied topics including travel, local history, sporting legends and humour. Unfortunately, February’s planned speakers were unable to attend and David Skillen stepped in at short notice to give an illustrated talk on a little known story from World War I of the Gretna Girls and the Devil’s Porridge. The monthly meeting on Monday 20th March will be an open meeting to showcase the groups and for members to renew their annual subscriptions. Non-members are very welcome to go along, find out more and subscribe.
Meetings are at Jubilee Hall, Wellow Road, Ollerton on the third Monday monthly, doors open at 12.30pm. Membership is open to adults irrespective of employment status.
The next social event will be a Beetle Drive and Supper to be held at Jubilee Hall on 24th March.
