Dukeries u3a are looking forward to meeting together at the Jubilee Hall, Ollerton for their annual garden party in August. Before this, there will be a chance to see friends at a picnic in the park planned for late June at the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre.
Members kept in touch again with social events via Zoom as well as with their monthly newsletter and Facebook. The Allsorts Club decided to meet outside in each other’s gardens during fine weather and the Whatsapp Walking Group also continued to enjoy walks in Sherwood Forest and Spar Ponds in Clipstone. Meanwhile, as hospitality venues open up, plans are being made for the Sunday and Tuesday lunch clubs to start in July and August.
In July, Autumn Rose from Via East Midlands will be giving a talk entitled ‘Drive On’. It is hoped that speakers will be able to visit in person from September.
Dukeries u3a are forging links with community partners in Ollerton, Edwinstowe and the surrounding villages. This will provide further opportunities for their members to take part in local projects and workshops. Sixteen members were inspired to try bowling for the first time at Ollerton Bowls Club. In spite of damp weather, members enjoyed two hours of instruction and play. Dukeries u3a will now be playing on Wednesday afternoons, every fortnight for the rest of the season. A huge vote of thanks was given to Noel and the bowls club members who assisted on the day.
There was a special national celebratory u3a day on 2nd June. In view of the lockdown restrictions still in place, Dukeries u3a decided to postpone their special day until 11th September 2021, when existing and prospective members will be able to sample the varied programme of activities. The all-day event will be held at the Jubilee Hall, Wellow Road, Ollerton. Plans are also being made to have a stall showcasing their activities in Ollerton and Edwinstowe shopping areas during the summer.
