The relaxation in restrictions meant the Dukeries u3a Whatsapp Walking Group could meet again outside, with sunny walks around Vicar Water in Clipstone enjoyed. Meanwhile, the online Zoom programme continued with two or three events every week and members enjoyed quizzes, competitions and social occasions. Members also kept in touch with their monthly newsletter ‘Staying Connected’.
Dukeries u3a were invited to discussions with the Future Life Group to give their view on what could be done to achieve a brighter future for seniors in the community. Members also attended online poetry workshops led by poet Sue Dymoke, part of the Miner2Major initiative celebrating the Sherwood Forest area. The monthly Zoom talks by professional speakers continued in April with an entertaining talk by Steve Herra on ‘Cunard History and Glamorous Stars’.
The group’s Annual General Meeting will be held via Zoom in May, then online speaker meetings continue in June with Graham Keal and ‘Terry Wogan’s Hairweave and Other Stories’ and Autumn Rose from Via East Midlands in July with ‘Drive On’.
Dukeries u3a is open to anyone over 50 and not in full time employment, who is looking to spend their time in a fulfilling and interesting way. In normal times, they meet for a members’ meeting on the third Monday of the month from 1.00pm till around 3.30pm in the Jubilee Hall, Wellow Road, Ollerton, when they have a visiting speaker followed by a social gathering. Group leaders and other members plan and organise interest group activities, held in various venues in the surrounding area. There is also a programme of visits and day trips.
