Musical Director departs

Dukeries Singers Musical Director Vicki Melling is to leave the choir to take up employment in Northampton.

After a spell as a choir member in 2015, Vicki took up her role as Musical Director when the Covid lockdown was lifted and the choir could meet again and sing again (albeit it in face masks). Vicki’s final formal conducting of, and contribution to, the choir will be the Summer Concert – details below.

Chair John Banbury congratulated Vicki upon her new appointment and praised her for the quality of her work with Dukeries Singers, saying: “Our choir has been blessed to have Vicki as our Musical Director in the challenging post-Covid era, and she has undoubtedly enriched the quality of our performances.”

June Summer Concert

The Singers’ Summer Concert will be on Saturday 15th June, 7.00pm at Jubilee Hall, A616 Wellow Road, Ollerton NG22 9AP.

Outgoing MD Vicki Melling will perform solos of Shirley Bassey’s curtain-raising Big Spender and the enduring anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Special guest performers The Gentlemen will also be thrilling the audience once again with their harmonies.

The Singers’ own male voices promise laughs galore with a solo rendition of Paddy and the Bricks by Danny Twomey and a take on Is This the Way to Amarillo by the combined basses and tenors.

Another highlight promises to be a complete harmony by sopranos, contraltos, tenors and basses of the whole Dukeries Singers Choir of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.

The customary buffet is included in the cost of £10.00 per person. Tickets can be obtained from any member of the Dukeries Singers or from committee member Barry Callieu on 01623 822200 or dukeriessingers@icloud.com.
