Dog owners are being asked to take a pledge to be responsible and help others to do the same.
The PAWS campaign has been launched by Newark and Sherwood District Council to encourage dog owners to pick up their dog’s poo and walk and play with their dog regularly. The campaign also asks owners to help others to do the same.
PAWS stands for Pledge to pick up your dog’s poo, Active for life, Welfare and responsible dog ownership and Sign up and support. It means that not only will you pick up your dog’s poo, but you will exercise your dog, make sure they have an up-to-date chip and advise other owners to look at taking the pledge as well.
With £1.4 million dogs in the UK being walked less than once a day and 2.1 million dogs being left home alone for five or more hours in a typical weekday, the PAWS pledge is more important than ever.
Andrew Weaver, Community Protection Officer for Newark and Sherwood District Council said: “By taking the PAWS pledge, dog owners are taking a stand against irresponsible ownership. They are promising to take proper care of their dog and help other dog owners to sign up and take the pledge as well.”
