Worksop Neighbourhood Policing Team is encouraging cyclists to not just lock their bikes, but also to security mark them.
The team is holding a series of cycle marking events throughout the summer to support this, with every bike marked also being entered onto the Bike Register Database, a national register of bikes and their owners.
The unique security mark each bike receives will identify it, should it be stolen, helping the police to return it to its owner should it be recovered.
Cyclists are also able to access the database to mark their own bike as stolen, or to check the status of a bike they are considering buying.
Bike marking kits can be purchased from Bike Register, but the service is being offered free of charge at the cycle security marking events.
The second event is being held at Carburton Tea Rooms, Ollerton Road, Sunday 9th June (not what is incorrectly printed in our June edition). The team will be there from 10.00am to 2.00pm. This will be followed by another event on Sunday 21st July at Welbeck Garden Centre.
In August and September there will be events at Manor Farm, Oldcotes, and at Torworth Grange; dates to be confirmed.
For details of future dates, keep an eye on the West Bassetlaw Police Facebook page, and the team will keep followers up to date with news, appeals and events.
