We will soon be entering the third year living with the effects of COVID-19. During this time your local Rotary has had to curtail many of its activities and, as a result, the support usually offered to the local community has also been limited.
Your local Sherwood Forest Rotary, based in Ollerton and Edwinstowe, supports groups and individuals from an area extending to Clipstone, Bilsthorpe, Wellow, Walesby, Kirton, Tuxford and all the villages in-between.
With meetings in person not permitted at present, they have met with the aid of Zoom. During this time many of their fundraising events could not take place. They have missed two Proms Concerts, the Tesco Christmas collection of 2020, a Golf Day at Rufford and two St George’s Day celebrations, but their members have raised money by cycling long distances over the past year, which has benefited their health as well as local groups, and you may have seen the club at Tesco in December 2021.
Your Rotary has one major concern. Although they continue to be active, the recent climate has prevented local growth in many clubs and societies. Members join Rotary for a variety of reasons and often wish they had joined years before. If you live in the area, perhaps newly arrived in one of the new houses, and while reading this think you might like to meet local Rotarians and perhaps join Sherwood Forest Rotary please get in touch. Without Rotary many local groups and organisations would have one place less to approach for support.
The Club have written this article to attract you to Rotary. It would be a shame for them to discover your interest too late for Sherwood Forest Rotary. Rotary is available to everyone, it’s an opportunity to socialise and work with likeminded people to support your local community.
Contact iminterestedinrotary@outlook.com – one of Sherwood Forest’s Rotarians will get back to you.
