Community Singalongs

by | 2 June 2024 | Community Event, Hobbies, Sherwood

Community Singalongs started for residents of Edwinstowe Village and Ollerton Town in April, thanks to Newark and Sherwood District Council who provide the venues free of charge. They take place on the second and fourth Mondays each month in Lynds Close (Edwinstowe) and in Ambleside (New Ollerton) community centres.

The self-entertainment (there will be a compère) is free and the admission price of £1.00 per person covers light refreshments.
Nobody attending needs to be able to read music. The music and the word-sheets will be provided. The focus will always be on coming together for singing and enjoyment.

From a modest start with songs from just six famous artists, the group has quickly added more including Lonnie Donegan, Elvis Presley, Susan Boyle and Adele.

“The age-range we are aiming at is 18 to 99 years;” says organiser Kevin, “but children at least 10 years old can be brought along, as long as a parent or guardian brings them and supervises them throughout their time in the community centre.

“Anyone needing a carer is welcome to attend with their carer (who must be present throughout). The carer will be admitted at nil cost.”

The Singalongs in June are expected to include songs from Jim Reeves, Tina Turner, The Beatles, Chris de Burgh and Whitney Houston as well as from those artists who have featured before. ABBA seems to be the most popular group so far!
