A powerful show of community spirit has seen £4,028 raised for Teddies for Loving Care (TLC), following 10-year-old Fearne’s inspiring 100-mile fundraising challenge.
From 22nd November to 21st December, Fearne, from Edwinstowe, completed 100 miles using a wide range of activities including walking, running, cycling, swimming, paddle boarding, climbing and more. Along the way, she was joined by family, friends, teachers and local supporters, many of whom completed miles alongside her in support of the cause.
The funds raised will make a tangible and lasting difference locally. A spokesperson for TLC said: “This incredible donation will provide a full year’s supply of TLC bears to King’s Mill Hospital. These bears bring comfort to children at frightening and traumatic moments, helping not only the child but their families too. They truly make a real difference when it matters most.”
TLC, a charity supported by the Freemasons, supplies teddy bears to hospitals, emergency departments, police services, hospices, women’s refuges and air ambulance crews across England and Wales, offering reassurance and comfort to children during some of the most distressing times of their lives. The success of the challenge was made possible by the generosity and encouragement of the local community. Thanks are extended to everyone who donated, shared the campaign, walked miles with Fearne, baked cakes, bought raffle tickets, or offered support behind the scenes.
Special recognition goes to The Old Elizabeth Lodge 7714, alongside other Masonic lodges who became involved and donated so generously. The Freemasons continue to play a vital role in supporting charities like TLC, raising significant funds for causes that directly impact children and families in need, both locally and nationally.
A fitting finale in Sherwood Forest
The challenge concluded with a celebratory final event on Sunday 21st December at Edwinstowe Community Cricket Club, who kindly donated the venue free of charge and also made a generous donation to the fundraiser.
Many supporters joined Fearne to walk the final mile through Sherwood Forest, reaching the iconic Major Oak, before returning to the cricket club for cake, a raffle, and a cheque presentation – a fitting celebration of an extraordinary month-long effort.
Co-organiser Kate Summerfield and Fearne’s mum Helen Taylor said: “This challenge showed just how powerful a community can be when everyone pulls together. From the Masonic lodges to the cricket club, to every single person who walked a mile or donated, this simply wouldn’t have happened without you.
We’re incredibly proud of Fearne and thrilled that this money will have such a meaningful impact for children at King’s Mill Hospital.”
