Feeling the winter blues? Did you know just 30 minutes of activity a day, a good old chat and a smile from a stranger can all help to lift your mood and pop that spring back in your step?
Rotherham United Community Trust (RUCT) has a wide range of activities for adults ranging from coffee mornings, yoga and walking group to badminton, football, or even a spot of table tennis.
Rotherham United fans can join the Mature Millers to discuss the previous week’s games as well as the history of the club, or you can go and get a sweat on in a range of fitness classes. There are ladies only sessions, mum and baby yoga, groups aimed specifically at improving mental health, sessions supporting refugees, and the ever-popular menopause dance and chat.
A male only weight loss programme, MAN v FAT football, is into its fifth year now, with over 60 men joining every Friday for the football weight loss league.
Emma Schofield and Hollie Webb jointly manage the Health and Wellbeing department at the Trust.
Emma said: “Whether you fancy joining us down at the New York Stadium or out in the community, there’s plenty of weekly options to come and meet new people, grab a cuppa and have a good old chat.”
Hollie added: “No matter what you enjoy, we have something for everyone. Don’t be afraid to come along, our groups are welcoming and friendly and we’d love you to join us.”
It’s not all about getting out into the community either; RUCT can come to you! Their Social Prescribing project through Voluntary Action Rotherham means they can offer one-to-one sessions to those who need some support with their mental health but don’t quite feel ready to join a group.
They also deliver in care homes; their weekly activity sessions bring such a huge amount of physical, mental and social benefit to the residents, it’s truly heartwarming to witness.
All their sessions are free or low cost, and there’s even the opportunity to join the new GP-led Rotherham Healthwave project, which gives free access to a pool of activities including fitness sessions, badminton, swimming, table tennis, Pilates and more.
