There’s plenty happening for the Retford and District Branch of the Royal British Legion over the coming weeks, from community gatherings and family events to opportunities to support this year’s Poppy Appeal
August dates for your diary
The Armed Forces Community Festival (otherwise known as Coffee Morning) takes place on Wednesday 5th August at The Well Church, from 10.00am until 12.00pm. Join the Branch for the usual chatter, gossip, banter – and of course, the cakes! In case you need a gentle reminder, our Armed Forces Community has serving personnel, reservists, veterans, and families – husbands, wives, mums and dads – and they are all most welcome. Then on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd August, NVTEC (tractors) Working Weekend is back at Southwell Road, Oxton, NG25 0RJ. The team is awaiting confirmation, but hopes to be there.
Future events
- Monday 7th September – next Branch General Meeting at Babworth Sports and Social Club, starts at 7.30pm. All are welcome.
- Sunday 6th September – Harworth and Bircotes Family Fun Day and Classic / Retro Car and Bike Show at the Harworth and Bircotes Sports and Social Club, Scrooby Road, Bircotes, from 10.00am until 5.00pm. The Retford and District Branch gazebo will be there.

The Retford and District Branch would like to say thank you to all at the Retford Arts Hub for the Poppy Making day on 9th July, and to everyone who popped in to knit, crochet or make the much-needed poppies for the Field of Remembrance. Your support is very much appreciated.
Poppy Appeal 2026
Would you consider giving an hour of your time to support this year’s Poppy Appeal? The Poppy Appeal makes a real difference, but the Branch can’t do it without people like you. They really need your help in our local supermarkets to man the stands – your support helps them place the poppy stands where they matter most.
