While we all prepare for the festive period, Retford Cricket Club (RCC) are already excitedly looking forward to what 2025 has to offer. The cricketing year starts immediately after New Year with their juniors taking part in various age group indoor softball and tapeball tournaments. This acts as a fabulous refresher of skills and teamwork, especially as some will have moved up in age groups and will be looking to learn from their older teammates. This is also a perfect time for new joiners to get involved, whether they’ve played before or not. It’s all fast paced, exciting and great fun.
In early February while it’s cold, wet and dark outside, preparation for the impending summer outdoor season begins with indoor evening hardball training. This includes nets for batting and bowling practice as well as other team skills, in separate sessions for junior and senior teams.
RCC entertains girls and boys, women and men. While the club is successful in the generally male game, they are also developing a strategy to encourage more women and girls to make teams take on other all-female teams in the local leagues at softball and hardball cricket.
There are a number of other ways to support the club as a volunteer, whether it be officiating as an umpire or scorer – full training is available – or helping around the club in other ways. They welcome anyone to their family club. They also offer social membership and are open to spectators who just want to come and enjoy the games with them and their fabulous facilities.
