June Open Gardens

Garden visitors will be spoilt for choice in June as there are many and varied gardens open, including locally:

Sunday 4th June, 11.00am to 4.30pm

Capability Barn, Gonalston Lane, Hoveringham NG14 7JH

Large country garden imaginatively planted with a backdrop of established trees, shrubs and shady paths, in a charming country setting. Large vegetable garden with orchard and wildflower meadow. Plants for sale, refreshments.

Sunday 4th June, 1.00pm to 4.30pm

Park Farm, Crink Lane, Southwell NG25 0TJ

Three acres of beautifully planted garden with spectacular views of Southwell Minster across a wildflower meadow and ha-ha. Long herbaceous borders, large wildlife pond, area of woodland with acid loving plants. Wheelchair access, dog friendly, plants for sale, refreshments, picnic area, cashless payments.

Saturday 10th June, 12.00pm to 6.00pm

Joint opening. Hills Farm, Edingley and The Old Vicarage, Halam NG22 8BU.

Hills Farm: six acres of Nottinghamshire hay meadow carpeted with colourful wildflowers – ragged robin, pyramidal orchids and yellow rattle. Created with a passion to produce a delightful walk, the hay is then taken in July to feed the farm’s native beef shorthorn cattle.

The Old Vicarage: A firm favourite amongst garden visitors, this two acre garden has new planting areas with wildlife pond to enhance the landscaped gem of a garden to visit. Wheelchair access, dog friendly, plants for sale, parking, refreshments, cashless payments.

A new two acre garden in early development which started in 2018 from open lawn. See island beds and many original features, including a moon gate entranced pond area and sculptures. Lots of seating throughout. Wheelchair access, parking, refreshments in aid of Bassetlaw Hospice and Bluebell Wood, picnic area and cashless payments.

Sunday 11th June 1.00pm to 5.00pm

Hollinside, 252 Diamond Ave, Kirkby in Ashfield NG17 7NA

Formal front terraced garden with shaded area, lawns, and flowering shrubs. Rear garden with wildlife pond, and wildlife meadow, summerhouse and Victorian style greenhouse. Topiary box and yews with box parterre planted with roses. Disabled parking by prior arrangement. Wheelchair access, dog friendly, plants for sale, refreshments.

Saturday 17th June, 12.00pm to 4.00pm

Clyde House, 23 Westgate, Southwell NG25 0JN

Secret, intriguing, organic walled garden. Sweeping lawn to formal steps with circular herbaceous borders, through to wildflower meadow, wildlife pond, fruit and veg plot with cut flower beds and greenhouse. Some wheelchair access, dog friendly, plants for sale, refreshments, cashless payments.

Thursday 22nd June 10.00am to 3.00pm

Rhubarb Farm, Hardwick Street, Langwith NG20 9DR

Two acre horticultural social enterprise which provides training and volunteering opportunities to the local community. Growing a huge range of vegetables in eight polytunnels and home to various animals together with environmentally friendly gardening practices makes for an interesting, educational visit with a chance to meet and chat with the volunteers. Sunday 25th June, 1.00pm to 5.00pm and Wednesday 28th June, 6.30pm to 9.30pm

Group Opening, Norwell Gardens, NG23 6JX

Now in the 27th year of opening, five village gardens and nationally renowned Norwell Nurseries. A range of different, very appealing gardens, set against the backdrop of a quintessentially English countryside village. Medieval church and peaceful churchyard with grass labyrinth open for quiet contemplation. Wheelchair access, plants for sale, parking, refreshments, cashless payments.
