Sherwood Forest Brass enjoyed success at the Mansfield Music Festival last month, performing in the Brass Band Ensemble section.
Playing two contrasting pieces, Stal Himmel and Puttin’ on the Ritz, the band achieved a mark of 90, classifying the performance as Outstanding. The adjudicator offered highly complimentary feedback, praising the rhythms, dynamics and blend of parts. Special recognition was given to young percussionist Matilda for her excellent timing.
The band has now returned to the band room to prepare for its summer programme and to rehearse pieces for its Anniversary Concert later this year. As 2025 marks the band’s 25th anniversary, they are appealing for memories, photographs, programme materials or other memorabilia relating to Sherwood Forest Brass – formerly Thoresby Youth Band.
Anyone who plays an instrument or has done so in the past is warmly invited to go along and join the group on a Monday evening. For those who do not yet read music, tuition is available and is free of charge. There is no membership subscription.
Rehearsals take place on Mondays from 7.00pm to 9.00pm at Clipstone Social Club, Clipstone, NG21 9AL.
