Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum were honoured to host the raising of the Union flag on VE day at the museum on behalf of the Parish Council, with teas and cakes afterwards. ‘Making a Noise’ at 6.30pm were gatherings at the Stanton Arms; Miners’ Welfare and Copper Beech to celebrate Victory in Europe. The Veterans Breakfast Club also held a very well attended event on 7th May.
The team held their Summer Coffee Morning on Saturday 21st June at the museum on Cross Street. They had lots to offer in the way of bric-a-brac; raffle; toys and games etc, as well as a cake stall. Entry, as usual, was 50p and included tea or coffee. Their next one will be on Saturday 20th September.
The museum’s volunteers have also been out and about. Ilkeston Vintage Engine and Tractor Club were very appreciative of a visit, with many lovely comments afterwards and a promise to come and visit the museum next year. Ravenshead u3a enjoyed Brian’s talk about Bilsthorpe’s history going as far back as the Romans.
The Wellbeing Walks, organised in conjunction with Lincolnshire Co-op, are now very popular both with the walkers and their dogs. They take various routes around Bilsthorpe, enjoying the birdsong and views. Each walk lasts 60 to 90 minutes. The walks are on the last Friday of every month with the next one is on 25th July.
The team are looking forward to visiting Underwood School on 4th July. They will also have a stall at Caunton Summer on the 19th and Teversall ‘Step Back in Time on the 20th July, as well as any other bookings that come in.
Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery helps with fundraising as 60p from every ticket purchased goes to a good cause. With a 50 to 1 chance of chance of winning a prize each week, including the £25,000 jackpot, and the monthly prize draw as well, they encourage more of their supporters to give it a go. Tickets can be bought online for £1.00 each. They have already had one £2,000 winner
