The Miners’ Memorial Garden at Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum is looking amazing, thanks to hard working volunteers Bob and Anne who have completely redesigned it with a sheltered bench, new planters and area for memorial plaques. Special thanks also go to Chris and George who looked after it for so many years. The weeds have almost been defeated and there is a plan to introduce insect and wildlife friendly plants now that the weather is improving.
The Museum’s Summer Coffee Morning, run by volunteers and supporters who visited, raised funds to help with running costs. The committee would like to thank everyone involved, and reiterate that they cannot survive without support from the local community.
They are also very proud to be one of Lincolnshire Co-op’s Community Champions from September 2026 until March 2027. School visits also continue. There is no charge for these, but donations are very welcome.
A current highlight amongst the Museum’s plans is to celebrate Bilsthorpe’s community over the last 99 years, with photos and stories about village life since the building of the model village alongside other mining villages when coal was discovered in Nottinghamshire.
If you have any memories of time spent in the Village Hall, Miners’ Welfare or on community days out in the summer or events held in the village, they would love to include them in their exhibition.
