Edwinstowe and the Dukeries Lions, like all Lions clubs, love to sign up new members. It is very difficult to get volunteers to help them and be proud to wear the badge, but members are invaluable to how much of a difference the club can make.
It costs very little money to be a member, only about £1.00 per week. This may seem odd, but it means all public donations go towards worthy causes rather than the running of the Club. The Lions are a band of beautiful people who care about others, so they pay for their own uniform and other day-to-day costs.
Business sponsors can support administration costs and fundraising for the club administration is clearly stated, but the majority of the Club’s events are for the good of the community.
At a recent meeting, the Lions invested new members Carl and Michelle. Senior Lion Diane, a member for 20 years, formally invited them to join and they were joined by their sponsors, Kim and President Elect Paul Whitmore, for the ‘official’ event.
If you fancy seeing what the Lions get up to, please contact them via Jon Yarwood on 07581 265531 or by email on jon.c.yarwood@gmail.com and go along to a meeting. They are proud of their balance they strike between serious fundraising and socials.
Finally, the Lions thank everyone who visited their Stall at St George’s Day in Ollerton and hope to enjoy the same success at Wellow Maypole Day.
Their first charity music afternoon will take place at the Old Red Lion in Wellow on Saturday 16th August. Please contact them for ticket details.
