The Dukeries Singers have enjoyed a truly memorable season, highlighted by two successful concerts in Ollerton and Edwinstowe. Audiences were treated to a lively and diverse programme of musical theatre, concluding with a stirring Les Misérables medley that brought the house to its feet. These performances reflected not only the choir’s musical talent but also the joy and camaraderie at the heart of the group. The choir was delighted to be filmed both in rehearsal and in concert, capturing the energy and spirit of its performances. The Dukeries Singers are proud to have been nominated by Ollerton Together for a Newark and Sherwood District Council (NSDC) Community Award, in recognition of their contribution to the local community. This nomination honours the dedication of members and the ongoing support of loyal audiences.
Looking ahead, the choir is thrilled to be taking part in World Singing Day on Saturday 18th October, joining voices with choirs around the globe in a worldwide celebration of unity through song. A new season has begun and rehearsals take place on Wednesday evenings at The Methodist Church Hall, Forest Road, New Ollerton. New members are warmly welcomed – whether experienced singers or those simply curious to give it a go. No auditions are required, and while the ability to read music is helpful, it’s not essential. What matters most is a love of singing and a willingness to have fun. The choir is also pleased to welcome Sue Bennett as its new accompanist. Sue is a familiar name in the local music scene, and she brings great skill and a strong commitment to community music-making. Anyone interested in joining is encouraged to attend a rehearsal. The Dukeries Singers do not aspire to be the best choir in the world – or even in Nottinghamshire – but offer plenty of laughter, friendship, and the joy of singing together.
