Dukeries u3a’s Rambling group did not let inclement weather stop them enjoying seven- to nine-mile walks in the Ollerton, Walesby, Rufford and Budby Heath areas. The Whatsapp Walkers also stayed local, with walks in Clipstone and Walesby forests. A very informative session was held for the Sewing group, who learnt how to upcycle fabrics destined for landfill into useful articles. Meanwhile the Photography group travelled at dusk to Newark to photograph the town using special effects. Future photography meetings planned for 2022 include a guided visit to Clipstone Headstocks and a trip to London.

Now winter nights are here, Chairperson Leslye has re-started her Tuesday evening Zoom quizzes so members can keep in touch from the comfort of their own homes.

At the time of writing, Dukeries u3a members were looking forward to their Christmas Party at Jubilee Hall, Ollerton. Entertainment was provided by the Dukeries u3a Ukulele Group followed by dancing to the Tamla Motown disco.

The annual programme of speakers continues on Monday 17th January, when current and prospective members can hear well-known local pet detective, Lisa Dean, telling of her successes in reuniting lost pets with their owners. February’s speaker will be Geoff Harris, who will bring his talk about hidden London to Dukeries u3a. The full list of next year’s speakers can be found on the Dukeries u3a website.

As part of their commitment to engage with community partners, Dukeries u3a members were pleased to help the charity collection for Edwinstowe and Dukeries Lions when Santa Claus visited the Tesco store in Ollerton in December.

Dukeries u3a has been successful in receiving grants and are extremely grateful to the following funds for their support, which has enabled the group to upgrade equipment and materials:

  • Nottinghamshire and Community Foundation RTC Fund
  • Newark and Sherwood Community Engagement
  • Newark and Sherwood CVS
  • The National Lottery Community Fund
