The Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club is an amateur dramatic group founded in 1949. It is a registered charity based at the Guild Room, Laneham Street, Scunthorpe DN15 6LJ. They rehearse every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening from 7.30pm, as well as committee meetings, the Annual General Meeting, social events, and set design and construction for productions.
The club performs two shows each season. Audiences may have enjoyed the recent production of Talking Heads, directed by Sue Dolby, and rehearsals are now well underway for the January 2026 pantomime Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood, written and directed by Alex Hall.
Many people wonder what it might be like to step on stage after watching television favourites such as Coronation Street, Emmerdale or EastEnders. Others may prefer to contribute behind the scenes – perhaps designing props, sewing costumes, prompting, hosting, or building sets. Whatever your talent or interest, The Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club welcomes new members in all capacities.
One member recalls first attending a show by the club as an audience member before joining in 2018. It was then they discovered that every aspect of each production is handled by volunteers – from actors, directors, lighting and sound designers to stage managers, prompters, set builders, publicity teams, and front-of-house staff. Every role plays an essential part in bringing each show to life.
The club offers a flexible and rewarding hobby where members can devote as much or as little time as they wish, all within a friendly and welcoming environment. So rather than watching the dramas unfold on screen, why not take to the stage yourself? Join The Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club and tread the boards of the Plowright Theatre in Scunthorpe.
