Celebrate Christmas in two very different ways this December at Kirton in Lindsey Town Hall. The Singing for Pleasure Choir Winter Concert will take place on Wednesday 10th December at 7.30pm. Regulars will know that this is always a great evening, with the choir performing a wide range of music from medieval plainsong to modern favourites – all with a festive twist. The concert will also include solos, readings and plenty of opportunities for the audience to join in. The bar will be open too.

Tickets are £8.00 and can be reserved by contacting Mary on 01652 648435 or bought on the door on the night. The Lincoln Waites will perform Lincoln’s unique 600-year-old tradition of welcoming in Christmas on Tuesday 16th December at 7.30pm. Back in the 1480s, Christmas was a mix of religious worship, illicit gambling and a great deal of alcohol. On St Thomas’s Day (21st December) the Cries of Christmas proclaimed the start of the festive season when all men were free to do as they pleased, without fear of arrest unless by royal writ. In the 16th century, the words of the cries were recorded on the flyleaf of the Common Council of Lincoln’s 1565 entries. They would originally have been delivered by members of the City of Lincoln Waites – the mayor’s official musicians. The Waites you see today were re-formed in 2007 and were once again recognised as the official musicians of the Mayor of Lincoln on 21st April 2009. They are proud to continue the ancient tradition of Crying Christmas.

Tickets for this event cost £2.00 for Kirton in Lindsey Society members and £10.00 for non-members. Contact Martin or Mary on 01652 648435 or email enquiries@kirtoninlindseysociety.org.uk. Early booking is advised. The 2026 Kirton in Lindsey Community Calendar is now available. This marks the third year of the calendar competition, where residents are invited to submit their photographs of Kirton in Lindsey. The highest scoring 13 entries are then featured in the final calendar – a beautiful keepsake of the town that lasts all year. Calendars are £9.00 each, with only 100 printed, so early orders are recommended. To reserve a copy, contact Jo.
