People living locally with Parkinson’s are being invited to try a new aquatic therapy programme designed to help local communities live well with the condition and improve their wellbeing.
Launched in Gainsborough in September, each water-based activity session will be delivered by experienced instructors from Chris the Mindset Coach CIC. Under specialist supervision, participants will be guided through a series of movements, exercises and circuit-based training in the water.
The programme is supported by funding from Parkinson’s UK, with the aim of giving more people with the condition the confidence to be active in water.
The weekly project will run for 12 weeks. Anyone interested in taking part must complete a referral form so their suitability can be assessed. The programme is available to anyone with Parkinson’s, from those newly diagnosed to people with more progressive and complex symptoms. The sessions are aimed at those with lower mobility, a BMI below 39 and lower levels of physical activity.
Chris Duncan, Parkinson’s exercise coach, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive funding from Parkinson’s UK, enabling Chris the Mindset Coach CIC to launch aquatic activity and peer support sessions in Gainsborough.
“This investment will help people living with Parkinson’s improve their physical wellbeing, build confidence, reduce isolation, and connect with others in a supportive, inclusive community where they can thrive together.”
Eleanor Halford, area development manager at Parkinson’s UK, said: “It’s great to be supporting this new project for people living with Parkinson’s in Lincolnshire.
“Being active can be one of the best ways to live well with Parkinson’s and my hope is that more people living locally with the condition will be able to experience the benefits of aquatic therapy in the future.”
