Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club

The meeting of Beckingham and District Gardeners’ Club on Monday 17th June was an open garden and social meeting at a member’s house in Walkeringham, and the weather was perfect with sunshine and blue skies. It was a lovely evening, with lots of chatter and laughter.

A big thank you goes to the members for their generosity, in buying the plants which were for sale, in aid of charity. The money raised was donated to Feral Rescue, Gainsborough, and Windyridge Bird Rescue, Everton.

On Saturday 22nd June two members, Pat Hooton and Diane Derbyshire, supported by friends, held a Charity Plant Stall at Pinders Croft, North Moor Road, Walkeringham. Again, the weather was perfect, with sunshine and blue skies for a lovely social occasion.

The plants flew off the shelves and raised lots of money for the chosen charities. Thanks go to everyone who supported the event. The charities chosen were: Walkeringham Charities, Feral Rescue Gainsborough and Windyridge Bird Rescue, Everton.

The July meeting was a visit to Colin Bowler’s garden at Tyne House, Leverton Road, Retford. There will be no meeting in August.

The speaker at the meeting on Monday 16th September at 7.30pm will be Sue Smith, with her talk ‘Hedgehog Odyssey’. Sue has spent many years caring for hedgehogs at 7th Heaven Hedgehog Rescue, from which she has recently retired. Sue will share tips of how gardeners can help hedgehogs, particularly in the winter.

Anyone who is not a member of the club, but is interested in listening to any of the speakers, is welcome to go along to any meeting. The club charges £4.00 for visitors, which includes refreshments. The meetings are held in Beckingham Recreation Room and start at 7.30pm.

If you are interested in gardening, the environment or related subjects, this small, friendly club could be for you. For more information, contact Pat Hooton on 01427 890357 or 07776 060247.
