Windows 7 is coming to the end of its life! Microsoft’s end-of-life date for Windows 7 is set for Tuesday 14th January 2020, so what should you do if you have a Windows 7 machine? Recent research indicates that some 39% of all PCs are still running Windows 7, so this is a big issue.

With end-of-life, Microsoft will no longer provide any support, particularly with respect to software patches and updates to protect users from malicious attacks. General advice given to users is to upgrade to Windows 10 although this clearly has a range of issues. The most common one is that the hardware of a user’s computer is incapable of running Windows 10 — it is more demanding than Windows 7. This generally means that purchase of a new computer follows.

Then there is the need for training in the new operating system too. This is eased somewhat in that Windows 10 has much in common with Windows 7 — much more so than the troublesome Windows 8.

Clarborough and Welham IT Group has extensive experience of Windows 10 and particularly with the huge range of open-source applications that can power-up new laptops to specifications that match (and interfaces with) Microsoft’s standard and beyond and all for no cost at all. So, if Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop and other applications looks too expensive, why not go along and be amazed what open-source offers — for nowt!

So, if you’d like to play with one of the group’s Windows 10 laptops, or take your own, to get to grips with Windows 10 in a supportive (and sometimes off-the-wall) environment, get in touch with them. Classes run in Clarborough Village Hall on Tuesdays, from 1.30pm to 3.00pm or Wednesdays from 10.00am to 11.30am, with the second autumn five-week ‘block’ of classes starting week commencing Monday 11th November, at just £20.00 for the whole block.

There are still a few places in the September classes — contact the group for details. Please note the above timings — the Tuesday times were mistakenly given as 1.00pm to 3.00pm in the August issue!
