Following last year’s victory at the festival, Sherwood Forest Brass gained first prize for the second year running in the Brass Band Ensemble Class at this year’s Mansfield Music Festival. Their performances of The Water of Tyne and Nearer My God to Thee were praised by the adjudicator, who described the band as well balanced, with good ensemble playing and excellent control of dynamics.
These two pieces can be heard at the band’s next concert on Monday 8th June at Clipstone Social Club. Before this, the band will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Saturday 6th June and hopes to welcome as many former players as possible for a grand reunion to reminisce over memories from the band’s formation through to the present day. Before the anniversary celebrations, the band will appear in the Winners Concert for the Mansfield Music Festival and at Eakring Church for a Ukraine Festival. The band will return to Eakring Church on Monday 20th July to perform another concert. Anyone interested in playing with or supporting the band is encouraged to get in touch. Instruments are available for every age and ability, with free instrument hire provided. Those who do not read music will be taught by a qualified musician, with tuition also offered free of charge.
The band currently rehearses on Mondays from 7.00pm to 9.00pm at Clipstone Social Club, Clipstone NG21 9AL.
