Acts of Jewish Resistance: From Secret Diaries to Armed Uprising – curator talk

Sunday 3rd May, 11.00am to 12.00pm

The new handling box, Jewish Resistance, brings visitors close to artefacts that reveal the many ways Jewish people responded to Nazi persecution. Join the curator to explore acts of defiance, from early resistance to armed struggle as a last resort.
After liberation, survivors gave testimony, spoke at trials, and preserved evidence to ensure justice. Their determination to record, remember and bear witness continues today, showing that resistance was not only about survival, but also truth, accountability and the enduring human spirit. This event is suitable for ages 14+.

Survivor testimony: Eva Clarke BEM

Sunday 3rd May, 1.00pm to 2.30pm

Eva Clarke BEM shares the remarkable story of both her own survival and that of her mother. Eva was born on 29th April 1945 on a coal wagon at Mauthausen concentration camp. Her mother, Anka, had survived Theresienstadt Ghetto, Auschwitz, forced labour, and a 17-day journey in cramped wagons without food or water. Just three days after Eva’s birth, Mauthausen was liberated by the US Army. Her testimony reflects on their lives before, during and after the Holocaust. This event is suitable for ages 14+.
