On Monday 1st September, Retford and District Photographic Society opened the new 2025-2026 season with a meet-and-greet social evening. Many previous members returned, alongside some guests and two new members who were warmly welcomed. The programme for the new season was introduced, with the structure and rules of upcoming competitions explained. Members’ nights will feature again this season, with suggestions for practical, hands-on sessions such as table-top photography, macro, night photography, portrait and flash, as well as workshops with visiting experts in various fields.
A popular element of the programme remains the Show and Tell sessions, where members present images reflecting their personal style. These provide discussion points and inspire new approaches. Lee Dalgiesh, one of the club’s most successful competitive photographers and now organiser of the internal competitions, entertained the first meeting with a presentation of last season’s winning entries, followed by a showcase of all submitted competition photographs. This was enjoyed by all and gave new members a clear insight into the variety and quality of work within the group, while underlining the society’s appreciation of all genres and levels of expertise.
The first meeting of the season also included a buffet, giving members the chance to chat informally, renew friendships and make new connections. Retford and District Photographic Society is a sociable club, with time always made for conversation about photography and related interests. New members are always welcome, including younger people who can join as junior members. A responsible adult should make initial contact on behalf of those under 18, so that safeguarding arrangements can be explained.
The society meets every Monday at 7.30pm at St Joseph’s Hall, Babworth Road, Retford, with the exception of a short mid-season break. Meetings run until the end of April 2026. Attendees are asked to arrive a little before 7.30pm as the signing-in desk is usually busy.
