After another successful, family-focused summer evening in the gardens of Bassetlaw Museum in the company of the Oriontree Alpacas, the Friends of Bassetlaw Museum (FoBM) are turning their thoughts to the autumn and, specifically, to their Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The AGM will be held at the Museum on Grove Street, Retford, on Thursday 16th October, commencing at 7.00pm. The normal business of the AGM will be conducted: reports from various committee members, approval of the annual accounts, decisions about membership fees for 2025, and the appointment of the new committee. Following the AGM, there will be a presentation by Angela Anwyl. She will be talking about music making in Retford between 1896 and 1929. Angela, who has published two books on this subject, will feature pianist Muriel Spencer, organist / choirmaster / conductor, teacher Hamilton White, and music shop owner Walter Parke, amongst others. The talk will also include the early years of the North Nottinghamshire Musical Competitions. Angela will show a few photographs from the Welchman Collection and talk about how the resources at Bassetlaw Museum have enhanced her research. Some of these will be on display for the evening.
All are welcome at the AGM, including non-members, who will not be able to vote. New members who join on the evening will benefit from membership running through to the end of 2026. Refreshments will be available. After a break for the summer, tours of Bassetlaw Museum are returning. Bookings are now being taken for Friday 3rd October, Friday 7th November and Monday 8th December. Tours start at 2.00pm and last about 90 minutes. Booking is essential, and while the tours are free, a donation of £5.00 to FoBM is recommended.
