Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum’s volunteers are looking forward to having a stall at Pleasley Open Day on Sunday 14th September. They always have a lovely time catching up with old friends and having a look in their engine house.
The autumn fundraising Coffee Morning will take place on Saturday 20th September at the museum on Cross Street. As usual, there will be lots of bargains on offer, including bric-a-brac, jumble, raffle, tombola, toys and games, as well as the cake stall. Entry is 50p, which includes tea or coffee.
The museum is part of Nottinghamshire’s Heritage Open Days again this year, with the focus on history, nature, and culture. The museum will highlight community in mining villages. The events run from Friday 12th to Sunday 21st September. Details can be found on http://www.visit-nottinghamshire.co.uk.
A special ‘Open Doors’ Day will be held on Sunday 21st September. The event will be in conjunction with Newark and Sherwood District Council and funded by Arts Council England. The event will be promoted on Facebook, with more details to follow.
The Lincolnshire Co-op Wellbeing Walks are now very popular with both walkers and their dogs. Various routes are taken around Bilsthorpe, enjoying the birdsong and views. Each walk lasts 60 to 90 minutes. The walks are held on the last Friday of every month, with the next one on Friday 26th September. The meeting point is at 10.00am outside the museum. Well-behaved dogs are very welcome to join, and they can meet Boris, who is not quite as well-behaved as he could be but is a bit of a celebrity!
The museum will be at Southwell Ploughing Match on Saturday 27th September and is very much looking forward to talking to visitors about mining in Nottinghamshire and the museum. Free entry is offered, which includes a tour by an ex-miner and tea or coffee. Bookings for school and u3a talks in October are already coming in, along with an evening visit from a local history group.
Support is encouraged by buying Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery tickets. With a 50 to 1 chance of winning a prize each week, it’s worth the £1.00 cost of a ticket, and of course, there’s always the chance of winning the £25,000 jackpot, with a monthly prize draw included. There has already been one £2,000 winner.
