The annual Ride+Stride event, organised by the Notts Historic Churches Trust to help maintain and repair historic churches across the county, takes place this year on Saturday 13th September.
The event is open to everyone and encourages participants to raise sponsorship by cycling, walking, or simply visiting local churches that are open and fundraising for their upkeep. Participants can be sponsored based on how many churches they visit, how many miles they cover, how many statues they count – or even how many pieces of flapjack they eat at participating churches!
Many churches taking part will also be running their own events, such as scarecrow competitions, cake sales, concerts, and bellringing. Open churches offer a warm welcome and often provide refreshments on the day. Whether approached as a physical challenge or a leisurely day out exploring Nottinghamshire’s heritage, the event offers a unique opportunity to visit some of the county’s most treasured historic buildings. Anyone involved with a church who would like to take part – or those wishing to walk or cycle in support – can find registration forms and further information at http://www.nottshistoricchurchestrust.org.uk or by contacting ml.info.nhct@gmail.com or calling 07757 800919.
All funds raised help to keep Nottinghamshire’s historic churches watertight and safe for future generations.
