St Mary’s Church, Edwinstowe, was the venue for Edwinstowe Historical Society’s meeting in June. Terry Ashton, a church steward, gave an overview of the church’s history, explaining that in 1175 the current stone structure was built to replace an earlier building on the same site. Noteworthy features include several stained-glass windows, memorials, and finely carved heads on the window arches and pillars. The programme of talks for 2025-26 has now been added at http://www.edwinstowehistory.org.uk, along with updates to the Rufford Abbey and Fire Brigade sections. There are no meetings during August. The new programme begins on Wednesday 17th September with a talk by Mo Cooper entitled The Clergyman, the Widow and the Milkman. Meetings take place in the Church Rooms, Mansfield Road, Edwinstowe NG21 9NJ on the third Wednesday of each month, starting at 2.00pm and lasting approximately two hours. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available.
