Edwinstowe Historical Society

At the Annual General Meeting of Edwinstowe Historical Society in May, retiring Chairperson Shirley Moore thanked the committee for their support during her 11-year tenure. A floral bouquet was presented to Shirley as a mark of appreciation for the dedicated work she had given to the Society. In 2015, she secured a grant of £10,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to develop skills for preserving the Society’s collection and to create the website www.edwinstowehistory.org.uk, which now includes reference to Rufford Abbey.

The past year has been a busy one, with the Society answering enquiries from people researching relatives who lived in the village, displaying photographs on the Craft Centre noticeboard, taking part in St Mary’s Christmas Tree Competition, recommending Edwinstowe Hall for inclusion in the Notts Building Preservation Trust’s Harry Johnson Award, working with schools, and currently seeking permission to install two additional blue plaques in the village. The AGM concluded with a buffet and raffle.

There are no meetings during July and August. The new programme of talks begins on Wednesday 17th September. Meetings are held in the Church Rooms, Mansfield Road, Edwinstowe NG21 9NJ, on the third Wednesday of each month. They begin at 2.00pm and last for approximately two hours. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available.

Annual membership is £15.00, and visitors are welcome at a cost of £3.00. Further information is available on the website www.edwinstowehistory.org.uk or by emailing EdwinstoweHistorySoc@gmail.com.
