The recent concerts by The Dukeries Singers at Ollerton and Edwinstowe were well received by the audience. Under the expert guidance of Musical Director Mr John Pope, the choir delivered performances that left the audience both enchanted and exhilarated.

Mr Pope, with his signature brand of humour, effortlessly compered the events, creating an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie. His witty interludes were a delightful addition, making the evening not just a musical treat but also a joyous communal experience.

The theme of the concerts, ‘Songs from the Musicals’, was a brilliant choice, showcasing the choir’s versatility and passion. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the medley of songs from Les Misérables. The powerful renditions of these timeless classics resonated deeply with the audience, drawing enthusiastic applause and even a few tears.

Another standout moment was the medley of upbeat Beatles songs, reimagined in a boogie style. This innovative arrangement had the audience clapping, singing along, and even dancing in their seats. The infectious energy of the performers was palpable, and it was clear that both the choir and the audience were having the time of their lives.

These concerts were a testament to the hard work and dedication of The Dukeries Singers and their director. They not only showcased exceptional musical talent but also brought the community together in celebration of the arts. Here’s to many more such memorable evenings! If you would like to join the choir, contact John Banbury on 07759 086132. While they would wish to particularly strengthen the alto section, all are welcome. There is no need to be able to read music, and you won’t have to audition or test; just go along and sing, have fun, and make new friends.
