Residents across Mansfield are encouraged to show their support for those living with dementia by wearing an Alzheimer’s Society Forget Me Not badge during June.
The Alzheimer’s Society’s Forget Me Not Appeal aims to fund life-changing support for people living with dementia today, as well as research that could lead to a brighter future for those who may face the condition in the future.
Dementia touches everyone. One in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia during their lifetime. In Mansfield alone, more than 1,600 individuals are currently living with the condition. This is why each Forget Me Not badge carries its own special meaning.
For some, the badge may represent a mother, father, or a cherished friend.
Alzheimer’s Society patron Dame Judi Dench is backing the campaign. She said: “Every Forget Me Not badge has its own meaning. Having seen the impact of dementia first-hand, I’m sadly all too aware of how cruel and unforgiving this condition can be. Not only for the person affected, but their loved ones too. This June, join Alzheimer’s Society and thousands of people across the country and wear your Forget Me Not – to support people living with dementia today and those who may face it tomorrow.”
The suggested donation is £10.00. Every £50.00 raised could help families gain access to support from an Alzheimer’s Society expert Dementia Adviser, assisting them in navigating their diagnosis.
