A busy start to the year

Inner Wheel Club of Warsop President Jean has been focusing on the skills and knowledge of members and has invited them to host the monthly meetings. In January, Judith gave a very interesting talk about her own artwork and presented some of her stunning work. At the end of the session, Judith gave a quick drawing lesson to the members, who all produced a well-drawn tulip.

In February, international service officer Joan organised a show and tell and encouraged members to bring in items from their travels to show the other members. Items were brought in from far and wide and members spoke about where they brought them and their meaning. Joan and her helper, Mavis, gave a presentation on how a baby bundle is made up with the clothes, nappies and blankets supplied to the club from members and supporters, before asking members to get involved. This was a very informative and fun event.

Later in the month, eight members attended the district quiz evening. They formed two teams and President Jean’s team came a respectable second place.

March brought Face Yoga to the meeting. Everyone gave it a go and some strange faces were created, along with laughter. Several members have said they will continue to use the techniques learnt to help keep their face and neck looking trim and fresh.

The end of March / start of April saw eight members travel to Harrogate to attend the Inner Wheel GB & I conference. This was five days of business, friendship and, most importantly, fun. The group, along with almost 1,000 other members, saw a presentation from Angela Rippon, who spoke about her life and career. Charity speakers also gave informative talks about their work, and evening events encouraged attendees to meet friends old and new. A highlight was the ‘Last Night of the Proms’ evening, where the fabulous Carlton Main Frickley Band got the crowd waving their flags, clapping and singing the classics, and the final evening saw members dressing up in costumes from the 60s, 70s and 80s for an evening of dancing to live music from these eras.

April promised more fun, with a creative writing session from member Jude and an afternoon tea with Easter bonnet competition.

If you would like to join the Club, please feel free to attend a meeting on the first Wednesday of the month at The Hostess restaurant, starting at 7.00pm. Attendees enjoy a carvery meal for £13.00, including tea or coffee, and you will be made very welcome.
