Thirty-five members and six visitors of Nottinghamshire Environmental Association attended the Annual Lunch on Saturday 22nd February at Ye Olde Bell Hotel, Barnby Moor. The Chairman of the Association, Paul Willcock, welcomed everyone and expressed gratitude to the visitors who had assisted less able members in attending, particularly those who had travelled long distances. A thoroughly enjoyable three-course meal, followed by coffee and tea, was served.
The AGM commenced with the Chairman highlighting the forthcoming Planetary Parade, accompanied by a slide illustrating the relative positions of the seven planets that might be visible. He then delivered his annual report on the Association’s activities in 2024, noting that membership had once again increased. Six new members had joined in January and February 2025, bringing the total to 76. A presentation showcased the seven indoor talks and five outdoor visits held during the year, with thanks given to those responsible for organising these events. The Chairman also outlined the ongoing challenges faced by the committee in arranging activities.
Elections for officer post holders and the committee followed, along with the Treasurer’s Report, the adoption of a new GDPR policy, and minor amendments to the Constitution, which governs the Association’s operations.
After the AGM business concluded, the Treasurer, Adrian Blackburn, proposed that Life Membership be awarded to the Chairman in recognition of his efforts to enhance the Association’s operations. The proposal was unanimously approved. The Chairman was then invited back into the meeting and expressed his sincere gratitude to the members.
Under Any Other Business, members discussed the possibility of the Association investing in a solar power enterprise. As the Constitution did not permit a formal vote, the Chairman requested a show of hands to guide the committee’s decision. The proposal did not receive support from members.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote of thanks to the management and staff of Ye Olde Bell Hotel.
Upcoming events
Indoor meetings are held at Hallcroft Community Centre, Randall Way, Retford, starting at 7.30pm. Doors open at 7.10pm, and ample parking is available. Entry to each talk costs £3.50 for non-members, including light refreshments served after the talk, providing an opportunity for members to socialise.
