The Dukeries Community Band – St George’s Day Performance

by | 15 April 2025 | Hobbies, Music, Sherwood

The Dukeries Community Band will give its first outdoor performance of 2025 on Sunday 27th April at the St George’s Day celebrations in Old Ollerton. The performance will take place at 1.50pm. In the event of April showers, an indoor venue will be available. This event will feature some of the band’s newest pieces, and the community is encouraged to go along and listen.

The Dukeries Community Band is a wind band comprising brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. Players of all ages and abilities are welcome, whether they are returning to music after a break or have recently started learning. The only requirements are the ability to read music, a commitment to improvement, regular attendance at rehearsals, and enthusiasm for performing in concerts.

Playing in a band is an excellent way to develop musical skills in a friendly and supportive environment. Under the direction of Musical Director Ray Jones, the band continues to grow, with his encouragement helping members achieve their best, even when challenges arise.

New players are welcome to attend any rehearsal, either to join in straight away or simply to listen. No audition is required. Rehearsals take place every Tuesday during term time at the Dukeries Academy, New Ollerton, from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. The band’s repertoire includes a wide range of music, from pop to classical and everything in between.

The band regularly performs concerts in support of the local community and charities and welcomes enquiries from organisations interested in hosting a performance.
