Does the thought of playing in a band excite or terrify you? Regardless of your answer, The Dukeries Community Band could be the perfect place to develop musical skills while enjoying yourself.
The band is a community concert group featuring brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. New players are welcome to attend any rehearsal, whether to join in straight away or simply to listen – no auditions are required. Players of all ages are encouraged to join, with current members ranging from 12 to over 80. Whether someone has not played for a while or has only recently started learning, they are welcome. The only requirements are the ability to read music, a willingness to improve, regular attendance at rehearsals, and participation in concerts.
Rehearsals take place every Tuesday during term time at The Dukeries Academy, New Ollerton, from 7.00pm to 9.00pm.
The band’s repertoire continues to grow, spanning pop to classical and everything in between. New music on order includes a Meat Loaf Collection and a Moana Selection, and rehearsals have recently begun on Lustspiel Overture, a truly stunning piece.
Concerts help support the local community and charities, and the band welcomes enquiries from organisations interested in hosting a performance.
