Do you have a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument at home that you are learning to play or haven’t played for some time? Would you like to improve your playing? Do you think you would enjoy playing with a band in a friendly, supportive environment?
If the answers to the above are ‘yes’, then The Dukeries Community Band could be ideal for you.
The band is a community wind band comprising brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t played for a while or have started to learn fairly recently. Players of any age are welcome. The only requirements are that you can read music, want to improve, can attend rehearsals, and are keen to perform in concerts.
Playing in a band is an excellent way to improve your skills in a friendly, supportive setting. The Musical Director, Ray Jones, is known for his ability to bring out the best in players, always offering encouragement – even when things go wrong!
New players are welcome to attend any rehearsal, either to join in straight away or just to listen. There are no auditions.
The band meets each Tuesday during term time at The Dukeries Academy, New Ollerton, from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. Having recently started working on some new pieces, it’s a great time to join. The repertoire spans pop, classical, and much more.
Concerts support the local community and charities, and the band is always happy to hear from organisations interested in hosting a performance.
