The Edwinstowe in Bloom (EiB) volunteers have been doing a massive amount of clearing to get the allotment into shape ready for future projects, sessions and initially for the Open Day, which was held on 23rd March.
The other flower beds and the wildflower sites have not been neglected. Work has continued with sowing more seeds and planting more bulbs, and the group was pleased to see the yellow rattle seeds starting to come through in some areas.
With a theme needed for Edwinstowe in Bloom this year, the group has decided to go with Robin Hood. As part of this, they want to get herbs throughout the areas being worked, and have decided on parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme (from the song) together with borage and sweet cicely.
Once again, this year the Love Edwinstowe and Sherwood Forest Heart Trail run by EiB was a great success in February, and thanks go to all those who helped, including Edwinstowe Rainbows and Brownies and Village Craft and Chat. A great variety of hearts of all sizes were made by volunteers from fabric, wool, wood, and slate.
The competition clues were made available at Three Little Daisies in the Sherwood Forest Arts and Craft Centre, Visit Sherwood Forest, Goff’s Butchers, Callieu Family Butchers and Edwinstowe House. So many venues spread through the village made it easy for people to obtain a form and enter the competition. The completed trail sheets had to be returned to one of these locations to be included in the prize draw to win one of the numerous prizes donated by our amazing local businesses. The winners will be covered in the next article.
Thanks to the Magic Little Gem grant received from the People’s Lottery, EiB has been able to purchase a lot of equipment to help volunteers to do their work more efficiently and much more safely. They purchased four Street Barriers to put along the road side for safety when working near traffic. The group now have a petrol mower, a petrol hedge trimmer with chainsaw, strimmer and brush cutter. PPE was also obtained.
