The Dukeries Community Band are a community wind band comprising of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. Members thoroughly enjoy playing as a group and always welcome new players, of any age, to join. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t played for a while, or have started to learn fairly recently, although you must be able to read music. Playing regularly together as part of a group is a great way to improve musical skills. New players are welcome to attend rehearsals to join in straight away (there’s no audition) or just to listen.
Their Musical Director Ray Jones is highly enthusiastic, has a great sense of humour and certainly knows how to get the best from players.
They would especially welcome more brass players, ie trumpet / cornet, euphonium / baritone, French horn and trombone players. Their talented and versatile saxophone players cover some of these brass parts extremely well, but it would be good to have the ‘real thing’. They are also seeking flute players and clarinet players in particular. So, if you’re interested in joining them, they would love to hear from you at dukeriescommband@btinternet.com.
They rehearse each Tuesday during term time at the Dukeries Academy, New Ollerton from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. Their ever-increasing repertoire features pop to classical with lots in between, so there is plenty for everyone to enjoy.
Their concerts support the local community and charities and they are always happy to hear from organisations who would like them to play for them.
