2022 is Mercian Archaeological Service’s 10th year and they really hope to see you at one or more of their events over the coming year!
Alongside familiar favourites they are launching a number of new courses, and for the first time they are running three excavation weeks at the sites of their field schools (Welby, Bainbridge and Clipstone). All courses (information, dates and prices) can be viewed at www.mercian-as.co.uk. Please note ‘students’ includes distance learners and part time students.
The excavation weeks, new for 2022, are available only to people who have attended one of the following field schools: Sherwood Forest Archaeological Training Field School at Sherwood; Bainbridge Training Excavation; Welby Training Excavation. This includes previous years, but it is also possible to attend a field school in 2022, and subsequently an excavation week.
The Mercian excavation weeks are a great chance to continue your archaeological journey with Mercian and meet old friends and new.
All work is under supervision from your friends at Mercian, and so the digs represent a great chance to take your skills to a higher level, and of course learn more about finds, drawing, context sheets etc, but without the structured program of training exercises and lectures that form part of the training courses.
Previous delegates can, of course, choose to attend field schools if they would prefer – as this option still provides the best in training, offers the opportunity to cover more aspects of the skills passport, and may be more suited to fulfilling university experience criteria.
