Edwinstowe and The Dukeries Lions Club wish all Sherwood Life readers a healthy and happy new year. The Lions hope to be able to help as many people as possible in the forthcoming year.
ROAR 2021
The Lions attended Parkgate School, Ollerton to judge the ROAR 2021 projects the children had put together which could help save the planet. Fifteen groups were entered and it was obvious the children had some good fun thinking about ideas even if some of them were rather fanciful and beyond the realms of possibility.
The winner was The Great Gas Project, in which they described in detail how the filter takes in obnoxious gases and turns them into fresh air. They were given a winners’ certificate and a medal each. Each of the 15 groups were given a round of applause by all Lions and staff at the school as they all put a lot of thought and effort into their projects. Well done.
Christmas 2021
The Lions were out with Santa and his sleigh at various locations in our area and they would like to say thank you very much to those members of the public who donated and they hope they made you all smile along the way. Santa enjoyed his new sleigh and is now taking a very well deserved rest.
Thanks to the following establishments who donated chocolates and treats for the children in alphabetical order; Asda Ollerton, Bookers, Co-op, Morrisons Mansfield Woodhouse, Specsavers Sutton in Ashfield, Tesco Ollerton and Waitrose Newark. Also, many thanks to Jo Sanders of Edwinstowe who generously gave the Lions lots of Freddos and Haribos and some cash to purchase more.
A big thank you to Tesco Ollerton for allowing the club to be at their store, and to Dukeries u3a who stepped in to help with the collection there. As well as going around the streets, Santa was present at Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre, Copper Beech Bilsthorpe, GymStarz Rainworth, Dawn House School, Clipstone Food Bank Christmas Breakfast Party, Ollerton Lights Switch On and Edwinstowe Lights Switch On so he really does need a rest.
If you would still like to make a donation to the Lions please contact Bob on 07815 473802.
Defibrillator
The Lions made a donation to the Court House Pub Mansfield towards their project to supply a defibrillator within the town centre, which will be the first in the centre of Mansfield. This will be placed outside this venue.
Specsavers
The Lions are working closely with Specsavers Sutton in Ashfield and Newark and have just been given three large boxes of glasses which will be sent to countries without these facilities. If you have spare glasses please contact Bob on 07815 473802 and a club member will collect.
R.O.B. Boughton
I am sure all our readers are aware of the fantastic work R.O.B. do in our area giving work based training placements to adults with learning difficulties. The Lions are very proud to be associated with them and the club gave them a donation towards their cost of a Christmas party which was held at The South Forest Leisure Centre Edwinstowe.
If you think you have what it takes to become a Lion then please contact Bob on 07815 473802 for a chat or go along to one of their meetings at South Forest Leisure Centre, Edwinstowe NG21 9JA at 7.30pm every second and fourth Thursday of the month.
