We are living in uncertain times, with increasing energy costs and a number of energy suppliers going bust. Many people are being affected by this and it can be confusing and worrying.
If you’re a customer of a failed supplier:
- Ofgem will move you to a different company,
- Your new supplier will contact you, so take a note of meter readings, keep old energy bills and make a note of your account balance,
- Wait until your new supplier is appointed before cancelling any direct debits.
Saving money on your energy bills is also important to all of us and there are things you can do to save money.
Check to see if you are eligible for any special discounts, grants or support with your energy bills and if you are on the best deal. You can use the Citizens Advice price comparison tool, energycompare.citizensadvice.org.uk, to check to make sure you’re getting the best deal. Also, see the energy guides and advice links for more information.
Save money by making your home more energy efficient, eg don’t leave appliances on standby.
If you need advice or want more information, a Citizens Advice Energy Adviser can help you.
