Worksop Wonders WI launched themselves into spring with their first Spring Fair event, held at Thievesdale Community Centre on Saturday 11th March. It was a great success, so there’s sure to be a repeat in the future.

Monthly meetings this year have had guest speakers covering a wide range of topics including ‘The Story of the Oxo Cube’ and ‘Scandal of Sherwood Forest’. The next meeting, on Wednesday 12th April, will include a talk by Malcom Darroch about Dolly Shepherd in WWII entitled ‘When the Shute Went Up’.

The book club went on a trip to Nottingham Theatre and the Cinema group are regularly getting together at the Savoy cinema. Group trips for later this year are being planned for Halifax, a day at the seaside and a meal at the Silver Plate restaurant in Sheffield.

The planned monthly meetings for this year include talks and demonstrations of Encaustic Art, Pork Pie Making and Walking Netball.

Membership has grown to over 50 members with an age range of 40 years, but is now near capacity for the Community Centre. The group has started a waiting list for membership and will offer places to ladies in order of their place on the waiting list.

The first visit is free of charge and allows opportunity to see if membership is for you – but please make contact via Facebook or the webpage prior to attending for the first time.
