Worksop Wonders WI

Worksop Wonders WI had a great time celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee over the past two months.
In May, the very successful evening event Songs Through the Decades, which included a fish and chips supper, set the scene for future Jubilee related events.

June’s monthly meeting took a Royal theme. Members decorated their own cardboard crowns to wear at the meeting and brought photos of themselves taken in the Queen’s Coronation year 1953, the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977 or the Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

While tea was being served, all members participated in a Jubilee related quiz. The evening also included a very interesting talk by Kathy Powis about Henry VIII’s flagship, the Mary Rose.

Workshop Wonders WI’s next meeting will be on Wednesday 13th July at 7.00pm at Thievesdale Community Centre in Worksop and includes a talk by Michael Ogden about inland waterways. This will be followed later in the month by a walking group meeting along the Chesterfield Canal at Shireoaks with a stop off for tea at Turner Woods.

Membership to Worksop Wonders WI continues to grow and they only have a few places left before they need to form a waiting list for membership. At present the group is still inviting new prospective members to attend any of their meetings that are held at 7.00pm on the second Wednesday of each month at Thievesdale Community Centre. Your first two meetings are free of charge and then annual membership is £44.00 per year. This covers the cost of 11 monthly meetings plus other Worksop Wonders organised events. It also provides access to the Nottinghamshire WI Federation and the National Women Institute, with all they have to offer. Also included are eight copies of WI Life magazine.
