The recent monthly meeting of Worksop u3a was held at the Civic Centre Carlton.

The speaker was member Amanda Neilson, who spoke about the National Trust’s hidden treasure – Mr Straw’s House.

Members heard the fascinating story of two brothers who left a lasting legacy of their life and work running a grocer’s shop on Bridge Street, and saw items from the house in Blyth Grove.

Worksop and District u3a has two Sewing Groups that meet twice a month. They have been busy producing handmade items for Project Linus, which provides quilts to children who are sick, disabled disadvantaged or distressed.

The u3a handed over 16 quilts earlier this year and have a further seven nearly completed.

They have also made 40 Christmas Stockings which are given to children with a selection box inside. The handmade items are distributed through the local Project organiser to children in the Bassetlaw area.

The next meeting is on Wednesday 13th December at the North Notts Arena, with entertainment from swing band Simply Swing. There will be light refreshments and a Christmas Raffle with many prizes.
