2018 is the 90th anniversary of the granting of Worksop Rotary Club’s Charter. The occasion was marked by an exhibition at Worksop Library in February charting the club’s involvement with the town over the last 90 years. A celebration dinner was held at Ye Olde Bell, Barnby Moor on 20th February, attended by members past and present.
It has been a busy few months for the club. 13th May saw club members assisting with the Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw Fun Run, at Welbeck and on 19th May, members enjoyed a Tapas Evening at the Shireoaks Inn.
Club members assisted at the Courage Awards Ceremony celebrating courageous youngsters throughout Bassetlaw on 25th June and club members and guests enjoyed an Indian meal at Januek the following day, raising £200.00 for the Jaipur Limb Charity.
1st July saw Rotary’s annual Swimathon contest at Worksop College Pool. Hopefully the club will raise £300.00 towards Club funds. Then 3rd July saw the installation of the Club’s first Lady President — Mrs Maureen Lilley, who takes over from retiring President David Clough.
Future events include a fundraising barbecue, a visit to Renishaw Hall and various interesting speakers. Rotary’s Community Service Fund will again be making grants this autumn — please await further details.
